Finally, after a fantastically busy summer, I'm back to being a DA regular.
I'm down to 700 unviewed deviations and 300 unread journals. I predict a weekend of browsing.
With my first journal of the fall, let me introduce to those of you who don't know, the wonders of Greasemonkey. The only prerequisite to Greasemonkey revolutionising the way you browse the internet is using Firefox. And if you're not doing that already then, frankly, I'm baffled. So go ahead and install the Greasemonkey add-on and we shall begin your browsing transformation.
You can go to Userscripts.org and search for DeviantArt but here are my favourites:
Deviant Enlarge - Hover over thumbnails and the full sized picture will appear without opening a new tab or window.
Outgoing Links Remover - Get rid of the tedious "Out there be monsters" page when clicking links to other sites.
Simple Text Formatting - A very handy tool when writing journals or comments. Install it. You'll see.
There are scripts for tons of pages such as the very essential Lights Out for YouTube which adds a small lightbulb icon next to the video, allowing you to darken the background from the glaring white and then there's Large Images for Facebook wich gives you full sized previews of pictures on mouseover. Just search and you will most certainly find a script that you soon couldn't be without.
If you find a script not to be to your liking, simply right clich the monkey icon in the lower right corner of the browser and disable or uninstall it. I could go into Stylish and how that, too will help your browsing but it works in much the same way as Greasemonkey, although Stylish scripts are usually easier to manually manipulate.
If you need help with anything here, please don't hesitate to Google it. ...or leave me a comment.
And regardless of hindrances, if you try this, please leave a comment and tell me what you think. Geek out.
